Open day and season start-up

Saturday, 14th September 2013

Club members at the president's Pimm's party, July 2013If you're looking for a new club to join, and you are an experienced rower / cox, then come and meet us at Furnivall on the morning of Saturday 14 September. We'll be throwing open the clubhouse doors to welcome all potential new members who already have some experience in rowing, sculling and/or coxing.

The timetable for the day is below; we'd be grateful if you could register interest by emailing information@furnivall.org, particularly if you'd like to stay for lunch.

  • 10 a.m. in the clubroom: Welcome to Furnivall by the club captain, with background on the history and structure of the club. Current members will also be present to welcome you.
  • 10:15 a.m: Tour of the boathouse by current members, including the boats, gym facilities and club room.
  • 10:30 a.m: Women's squad meeting. The coaches will outline the training plans and aspirations for the coming season and answer any questions that you have. The men's squad will have their first meeting of the season on 21 September. Please email the men's squad captain Dan Jenkins, at menscaptain@furnivall.org, if you are planning to attend.
  • Lunch: with current members. Please RSVP if you would like to stay for lunch, by emailing information@furnivall.org. There'll be a break before lunch while current members do the annual boat-house deep clean. Potential new members are of course excluded from this! Feel free to relax in the clubroom during this break.

If you have never tried rowing or coxing before but would like to give it a go, we run LEARN TO ROW courses once or twice a year. The latest one has just finished, but if you'd like to be put on a waiting list for the next one then please email beginners@furnivall.org.
