Lining up for the start

Our women's coxed four of Helen, Charlotte, Meri, Fiona and Andy raced today at Wallingford Regatta. This is traditionally the first major regatta of the season, with six-lane racing at Dorney lake. Our newly-formed crew were aiming to get some multi-lane racing experience in the bag, with three of the crew having their first experience of racing at the Olympic venue.

The field was a tough one with many crews using it as the first regatta of their Henley Women's Regatta campaign. Our girls had the fastest start and were leading for the first 200 metres. This was particularly pleasing for the crew since they had recently adopted a new start sequence. With this being the girls' first regatta over 2000 metres, they lost some ground as the race progressed. However, overall they put in a very solid performance finishing ninth in time order out of all 18 crews entered. A great experience on a challenging course and we look forward to more regattas for the girls this season!
