Success at Reading Amateur Regatta

Sunday, 9th June 2013

Congratulations to our women's IM3 4+ boat who won their event at Reading Amateur Regatta today. Sarah, Fran, Fiona, Meri, with Ben in the coxing seat, succesfully overcame strong competition from Curlew and Putney Town to get to the final. They then confidently rowed through the University of Birmingham to win by one length in a time of 4:33. Special congratulations to Meri and Fran who lost their novice status! We look forward to cheering on the other novices as they follow in their footsteps.

Also on the Sunday of the regatta, Mike took to the water in the men's novice singles event. Two great rows in the heat and the quarter-final resulted in convincing victories, with verdicts of "easily" and 3.5 lengths. Alas the final was a stretch too far, as Mike came up against an extremely strong competitor from Henley RC. However, to make the final of a quality regatta such as this is no mean feat and we look forward to cheering Mike on again in future.

Another of our women's IVs did the club proud on the Saturday of the regatta by beating Southampton University in a closely-fought quarter-final of the novice coxed IV event. They then went on to meet University of the West of England in the semi-finals. Despite a great row from Furnivall, UWE proved too strong but this crew holds much hope for the future.
