Tideway Heads Round-Up

Tuesday, 13th December 2016

Our stretch of the Thames has seen a lot of action in the past month, with plenty of Furnivall members competing! Here's a round-up:

Jess, Nettles, Fiona, Meri:
W.IM1.4- at the Fours Head

On Saturday 12 November we had the Fours Head with FSC representation from a quad, two coxed fours and a coxless four. This was the first race for our new Stampfli 4+, named after a former member Sam Rushworth who died in the First World War. A fitting tribute for Remembrance weekend.
The quad, of Tim, Dean, Mike and Noel (from neighbours AKRC), finished 37th of 49 in IM1 4x category in a time of 20:23 (#139 overall). Next to finish was our women's IV- of Jess, Nettles, Fiona and Meri. They came 9th of 11 crews in W.IM1.4- in a time of 22:25. They were followed by our women's IV+ of Christina, Charlotte, Kate, Becca and Sarah M (cox) who came 31st of 48 in W.IM2.4+ in a time of 22:53. Our men's 4+ of Rory, Steve, Craig, Dom and Erika (cox) came 41st of 41 crews in IM2.4+ in a time of 22:45.

Florence, Val, Rachael, Sue:
W.C.4x at Vet Fours Head

The Vet Fours Head followed the day after, with two of the FSC crews from the previous day doing it all over again! Thankfully the weather couldn't have been more different with the sun smiling down on a Tideway that was sodden from the previous day's downpour.
The men's quad were racing for time only and clocked 17:48. The women's quad of Florence, Rachel, Sue and Val finished 7th of 10 in W.C.4x in a time of 21:25. A good result given that they were a scratch crew, with Rachel stepping in due to one of the crew falling ill at the last minute. To round off the weekend, our women's 4- won their category, finishing over half a minute faster than the competition in W.B.4- in a time of 20:27. Big congratulations to Jess, Nettles, Fiona and Meri! We have some photos from the day in the Gallery.
Jess (W.Nov) racing under Hammersmith Bridge at
