Women's Squad do us proud at Henley Masters 2011

Monday, 11th July 2011

Report by Lorna Mitchell, Women’s Squad Captain

Furnivall's Senior Squad Women do us proud at Henley Masters 2011 which took place 8 and 9th July.

The FAB 9, Lydia, Nettles, Fiona, Leah, Tillie, me, Emily, Val and Becca raced past Wallingford in the semi-final and then raced their hearts out to come really close to beating a very quick Nottingham crew in the final.  I'm really proud of the 8 as Nottingham have apparently been rowing together since December whereas I don't think we actually managed to get the full racing combination out before we raced in it - just think what we could achieve if we actually tried!!  You can view photos of our race on the BigBlade website.

The coxed 4 (Emily, Val, me, Tillie and Ben) went one better to win the Masters B final, beating Durham and Bewdley to the medals.

I need to say several huge thank-yous here - to Ben and Becca for their fantastic coxing, to Liz, Laura and Jacqueline for subbing into the 8, to Jacqueline P for her pre-race words of wisdom, to Nettles and Tillie for doing the organising to actually get the crews out on the water and to Henley on Saturday morning and, perhaps most importantly, to Emily (and Liz) for driving the trailer.
