The women's squad

Squad captain: Rebecca Hammond
Squad & club coach: Chris Vannozzi

Email address: womenscaptain-AT-furnivall.org

Our women's squad is currently going from strength-to-strength. We have professional coaching and two boats competing at the Women's Eights Head of the River Race. The squad always welcomes new members of all levels. For more information, please email womenscaptain-AT-furnivall.org.

Our squad includes members that want to train and race competitively. We do as much training as we can, fitting it around other personal commitments.

The current squad includes rowers with a wide range of abilities, from those who learnt to row with us this season to "older hands" who've previously rowed at university or other clubs. Our crews race at all levels, from novice to masters, in both sweep and sculling events.

We aim to field crews at a range of events in the rowing calendar, from Henley Women's Regatta, to the Women's Head of the River Race, through to smaller local regattas for our beginner group.

Training schedule

The regular year-round outings are on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; during the summer there are evening outings mid-week from 7 p.m. We have land training programme comprised of ergs, weights and circuits.

We are understanding that our members lead busy lives and therefore allow land training to be done at times and places to suit them. However, we encourage people to train at the club especially for the erg sessions on Wednesday evenings, to allow coaching and performance monitoring.

If you are an experienced rower (sweep or sculling), over 27 years old and want a flexible approach to land training then please take a look at our masters womens squad.

Spring camp

We have an annual training camp in the early Spring where we take about a week's break from the Tideway, often overseas, to train together without outside distractions. Since 2013 we've gone to Pangbourne near Reading and you can see what we get up to in the video below:
