*** Calling returning retired rowers ***
Are you an experienced former female rower or sculler (from 27 years of age) - who loves rowing and still wants to get out on the water and race, but who can no longer commit lots of time to the sport?
We still aim to get out on the water several times a week but have a flexible approach to land training. We include running or cycling as alternatives to erging and weights. In fact we regularly incorporate non-rowing events into our programme, for example the Rowers Revenge triathlon in Marlow and the Twickenham Cabbage Patch 10 mile run.
We can all do sweep and sculling which means we can be flexible about which boats we go out in and what we race in. Furnivall has some top of the range equipment, including two lightweight Sims coxless 4-/4x, and a range of doubles and club singles.
The approach seems to work. In 2011 we picked up medals and/or pots in 4x, 4+ and 8+ at British Masters, Henley Masters and Peterborough Regatta. Over the last couple of years we have regularly picked up Veterans Fours Head medals in a quad and coxed four.
The aim is to try and increase the size of the group so that we can also start to mount a serious challenge on the Veterans Head of the River Race. We are happy to race as a composite, and have done so regularly with AK and Bedford, so you need not loose your existing or former club ties.
We are a friendly and sociable group that is always happy to welcome new members who have a similar approach to their rowing aspirations and fitness. It also helps if you are prepared to put the time in when it comes to having lunch and can drink your own body weight in tea. Our squad motto is "how about a nice cup of tea and a sit down".
If this sounds like something that you might be interested in then give us a shout and we can go for a paddle.
