Welcome to Furnivall Sculling ClubOur club was founded in 1896 by Dr Frederick Furnivall. We are probably the first Club to promote women in rowing! We are a mid-sized club averaging around 100 members, sometimes more, sometimes less! The active membership is streamed into groups of people with similar aims, ambitions and desires. Our objective is to accommodate every kind of rower, from Novice/Beginner to Elite to Veteran. To find out what time we row and how we can help you, please click on the Contacts page and email the appropriate contact, who will be able to provide you with further information. We look forward to hearing from you soon. In recent years we have had success at all levels of competition and we are extremely proud that some of our National Champions and Henley winners learnt to row at Furnivall. We are also fortunate to be able to offer recreational rowing and sculling opportunities for rowers who are no longer able to train to for competitions and want to paddle for fun. We have a strong volunteer coaching team that will support rowing and sculling, with 1st Eight coaching led by Andy Holmes MBE. At the end of 2007, the club embarked on a major refurbishment programme including new changing room, new erg room, new kitchen and toilets. The refurbishment, which is now drawing to a close, will be formally opened on the 13th of July by former Captain and longstanding friend of the club John Robbins.
