Training Camp 2023

As is traditional at Furnivall, our main club training camp was scheduled to take place over the Easter Weekend. We had planned to return to Pangbourne College Boat Club, venue for our previous decade of camps, but unfortunately the Thames had other ideas. With river levels very high and the entire upper Thames on red boards, we ended up confined to home waters on the Tideway.

The club got stuck in with true Furnivall positivity, and happily, some glorious (if somewhat streamy) conditions. It was a fantastic opportunity to get stuck into making use of the entire FSC fleet, from trainer singles right up to the octo via everything in between.

All three main Furnivall squads, Racing, Development and Club, attended the camp with around 60 members taking part in total. There were huge improvements made all round, particularly in terms of small boat skills and regatta prep.

Being confined to quarters also meant the club bar was thriving in the evenings, playing host to a BBQ, pizza and quiz night, and Sunday curry club.

Attendees had a brilliant time and had this to say about their experiences.

"Thanks so much for everything.  It's been a great camp and really appreciate it"

"Thanks for making a great Easter camp despite the weather gods messing up the original plan, all much appreciated "

"Thank you SO MUCH - it was probably my best day ever"

"Big big thanks for last couple of days. Really enjoyed myself. Loved being back in the single and a first in the Octapus!!"

"I had so many firsts at camp - first time in a 1x, 2x and 2-, first time bow-steering, first time coxing. I feel like I learned so much and it was just such a great atmosphere too. Can't wait to experience the mysterious Pangbourne next year"

"It was great to get to know so many people at the club that I'd never really spoken to before"

"I really felt that I made progress in the 1x and finally fixed some of my issues"

"I'm just so chuffed to be back in a 1x post injury and able to give that a go in a safe environment where I'm not disrupting outings"

"My legs are killing me but I had an amazing time. Thank you."

A huge thank you goes to our camp organising team headed by Captains Josh and Ev, and coaching team: Matt, Mike, Alan, Ali and Craig.
