Tideway Heads Roundup
Hammersmith Head
After a string of cancellations due to poor weather, our squads finally got to race on 28 February, when we entered an incredible seven eights at Hammersmith Head.
A combination of the number of top clubs entering the race this year and a dearth of rowing points in the women’s squad saw our W1 drawn in the W8+ Development event and bring home the pennant for Furnivall! It was by no means a done deal, with Churchill College just one second behind.
United Hospitals Head
A week later we had five eights at the United Hospitals Head, racing from Syon to Chiswick. Our Development Squad had a fantastic day with the women winning the Novice event! The Development Men came second in their event, pipped to the post by a strong Imperial crew.
Women’s Eights Head of the River Race
On 14 March it was time for the Women’s Eights Head of the River Race and our three crews (two senior, one development) did the club proud. W1 had an outstanding race, returning the club’s best result since 2017 by finishing 111th (from a 215 start number). This put the women 29/119 in the Challenge event.
Congratulations also to W2, finishing 242nd, and the Development Squad Women, finishing 275th.
Kingston Head
No rest for the wicked as the men trailered to Kingston Head for their final preparation ahead of HoRR. We entered a senior men’s eight, coxed four and a development men’s eight – strong rows from all crews on what was the first sunny spring day of the year!
Head of the River Race (HORR)
The final weekend of winter season saw our squads racing across both Head of the River Race and International Masters HORR on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 March. For the first time in many years (and on its 100th anniversary!) we entered two senior men’s eights in addition to the development eight at HORR. Our Development 8+ did the club really proud, coming in second behind a very fast Vesta crew in the Club Beginner event, a real testament to their programme and hard work throughout the winter season.
Congratulations also to our senior men’s crews, who finished 264th and 356th / 375 crews.
International Masters HORR (IMHORR)
IMHORR saw entries from across the whole club with a W A/B 8+, W Nov 4x, Op Nov 8+, Op A/B 4x, Op Nov 4x from our senior men, women, development, masters women and club squads. Great rows from all crews in windy conditions and a shout out to our masters women who came third in their quad event!
