Furnivall Sculling Club

Furnivall Sculling Club is a competitive and friendly rowing club based on the Thames at Hammersmith, London. Founded in 1896, we welcome new adult members of any age and all rowing, sculling, and coxing abilities, including complete beginners.

Teaching people to learn to row is central to who we are as a club. We have a variety of groups catering for different levels of experience and commitment. We also enjoy a vibrant social life with events throughout the year.

If you're moving to London to start a new job or simply looking to change clubs, then come and speak to us. We always welcome new members with rowing and/or coxing experience. Please have a look at our squads below to find out more or get in touch to arrange a visit to the club.

Never rowed before?

No problem! Our six-week Learn to Row course teaches you everything — no experience needed.

Six weeks, three sessions a week, on the Thames with experienced coaches. £349 all-in. Our graduates have been some of London's fastest beginner crews three years running.

Our story

Founded for women. Open to everyone.

In April 1896, the 71-year-old Dr. Frederick James Furnivall - best known as one of the co-creators of the Oxford English Dictionary - founded the Hammersmith Sculling Club for girls. This later became Furnivall Sculling Club.
