Coxswains
Coxing can be one of the most demanding and rewarding positions in the boat. As a cox, it’s down to you to steer the best course and motivate your crew during training and racing; and a good cox is often the difference between winning and losing!
Furnivall is well know for training novice coxes and our coaching team provides plenty of support to develop coxes to achieving their goals, irrespective of their level. We provide dedicated coaching sessions for coxes, both on the water and on land. This includes video and voice analysis, steering analysis, and seminars covering topics from the basics of getting of steering to tone and race psychology.
We welcome coxes throughout the year. If you’ve never stepped in a boat before, you can start through our Learn to Row programme; you can then choose whether to move into one of the competitive racing squads, or cox more socially with the Club Squad.
For more experienced coxes, the racing squads offer plenty of opportunities for progression, with men’s and women’s crews competing regularly in the Tideway Heads, spring and summer regattas, Henley Women’s Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.
